Why Nigerian Entertainers Are Forced To Live Large -Iyanya

Kukere crooner, Iyanya in a recent interview with Encomium magazine gave an insight into why some Nigerian entertainers are forced to live large.

Excerpts...
"Why do you think some artistes come come up with hit songs and find it difficult to maintain it?"
"Music is very expensive. Most of them make money and its had to put it back in the same thing. Your next money is not guaranteed because there are lots of artistes. If you say you wouldn't do show A, they can take artiste B for that show. It doesn't mean that because you have a hit song, you would be performing at all shows. It doesn't work like that. So, some of these guys, its hard for them. Its hard for them to follow up. Follow up is the hardest thing to do. Many artistes make a hit but the money they make from that hit is not even enough for them to support or sponsor the next video. So don't blame them'.
So they need a lot of money to remain relevant?
"Yes. Let me give you an instance. I had a show here in Lagos, I was in Dubai. They made a mistake and booked my flight for Monday and the show was on Sunday. We rushed to the airport, they said no that my ticket was for the next day. After much pleading and explaining that I had a show that night in Lagos, they said alright.
I could board but not business class since it wasn't my flight. I had to fly economy class with my business class ticket. Sitting down there, people around where staring at me like what am I doing here. A woman even walked up to me and said "Iyanya, you no suppose dey here now, na the other side you suppose dey". What came to my mind next was that I can't just decide to fly economy today, it will become gist. I have to work hard, I have to make money, to live up to your expectations. It's not like am living my life for you but its the life I chose. So, I have to do it".

The story sounds like a mere conspiracy.I will jump on this thread and begin attacking Obj without asking themselves a simple question like How can Obj be sending letter to Gej? Letter to do what? Does it really make sense saying a former president want to advise a president and he is sending his advise or recommendation through a letter? Five Injured In Gas Explosion In Warri, Delta State

Five persons were injured in an explosion that rocked a house in Warri, Delta State on January 13.

The victims with burns of different degrees were taken to three hospitals in the town.
Tree children, including a four-year-old girl, were among the injured.
The Area Commander, Rabiu Hussaini, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said it was a gas cylinder that exploded.
An occupant of the apartment, Rukevwe Ebatefa, whose husband and children were injured, confirmed Hussaini’s finding.
"My husband filled our gas cylinder on Monday night, but we could not use it because it developed a fault. We wanted to use again this morning (yesterday morning) and the same problem occurred. My husband went to the kitchen to fix it, but the next thing we heard was an explosion," she said.
The incident resulted in panic among residents, who thought the two-bedroom bungalow was bombed by terrorists.

NDLEA: 143 Suspects Arrested, 2,157.48kg of Drugs Siezed in Niger

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Niger said it arrested 143 drug suspects and seized 2,157.48kg of drugs in 2013.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdul, made the disclosure when he briefed newsmen on the activities of the agency in 2013 in Minna on Wednesday.
Abdul said the suspects comprising 140 males and three females were arrested in Minna, Suleja, Mokwa, Kontagora, Kainji, Kagara and Babanna Areas of the state.
He said that of the seized drugs 2,148 kg were Indian hemp, 8.5 kg were other psychotropic substances and 18 pinches of substance suspected to be cocaine.
The commander said that out of the 143 suspects, 20 drug dependent people were treated by the agency.
"Each of the suspects spent at least two months in our mini-rehabilitation centre in Minna during which special counselling methods were used to treat them," he said.
He said 242 others were arrested by the NDLEA and other security agencies were counselled and released to their relations.
Abdul said other seizure made during the year included 600 grammes of marijuana seeds seized in Babana Border Area of the state.
He said the command also seized one locally-made pistol and two single barrel guns with 10 live cartridges.
The commander added that the three persons arrested in connection with the arms and ammunition was transferred to the police.
Abdul also said that the agency arrested and transferred four fake medical doctors to the state Ministry of Health for appropriate action.
He said that the command secured conviction of 46 people, while other cases were at various levels of completion.
He said that the agency had stepped up public enlightenment campaigns to reduce demand for illicit drugs in the state.
"Public awareness lectures were organised for school children, tertiary institution students, market places and parks," he noted. (NAN)

THE JOURNEY OF UNILAG RADIO 103.1FM

Journey of campus broadcasting in Nigeria dates back 1982, when Professor Ralph A. Akinfeleye called for the establishment of an educational radio station for the University of Lagos. The then Head of Department of Mass communication, University of Lagos, late Professor Alfred Opubor took up the challenges and wrote to the Federal Ministry of Information and Communication for a Radio license.

According to the informant; the Head of News, Mr. Tayo Takuro, the University of Lagos did not get a Radio License until the eventual Media Deregulation Policy of 1992. The License he said was eventually granted in February 2002, twenty years after the University Applied for one. The frequency of 103.1FM was assigned to the University in July 2003 and the station was officially commissioned on the 14^th of December, 2004 by former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In pursuance of its mission and vision as the center of media excellence in Africa, in the year 2002, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) granted a Radio License to the University to operate an FM station – Radio Unilag 103.1FM. The Broadcast students of the Department received their practical work at the Radio Unilag 103.1FM. The Department plans to go back to its original status of a School/Faculty of Journalism/Mass Communication within the next few years.

OBJECTIVE

The Objective of Unilag Radio is three (3) and is stated below:-

1.       To optimize instructional opportunities available to Nigerians in other to facilitate sustainable human development in Nigeria.

2.       To serve as an authoritative channel of instructional and educational programmes for tertiary level students and other adults seeking knowledge in other to improve themselves.

3.       To provide opportunities for schools to engage in appropriate research that can advance the knowledge and practice of Radio Broadcasting and communication.

Most workers with Unilag Radio are experienced hands who ensure that quality programmes are broadcast on the station. They also train students of the University and other tertiary institutions who come to the station for industrial attachment. Their ultimate interest of the station is to impact practical knowledge on the students they work with. They run the station from Monday to Sunday; every day of the week from 6:00am-12mid-night.

LANGUAGE

The general language that is used in this station is purely English except on a programme called Nigerian Proverbs which transmits every Tuesday from 11:15am; where Vernacular of different tribe is used in each episode with a Guest in the house who later translates it to English Language.

PROGRAAMES

UNILAG 103.1 F.M work with a programme schedule which is produced quarterly. It guides the production and proper management and running of the radio station.

They also have interesting programmes they run that starts with the Morning train, Midday and Night train. In all these trains; there are interesting programmes well packaged for the listeners. Some of these interesting programmes are:-

Today in papers- This is where they review the major stories of the Newspapers every day of the week. It starts from 8am-8:15am.

Another one is Window on the world. It is where the listeners are informed about the current happenings all over the world. It starts from 9:30am and ends at 10am.

Community Brief  is  another interesting programmed on this station where the news about the happenings of the campus are discussed, the students who are the possible target audience are briefed on the programmes and activities of what is going on around the campus, get them informed about all the announcements from the school management. The programme starts at 10:05am and ends at 11am.

Infotainment is another interesting programme on information about entertainment world; updates on celebrities like the musicians, actors and designers. The programme starts at 12:10pm and ends at 2:00pm.

Youth City is another interesting programme with the youths as target audience. Here they talk about entertainment, life style, relationship, academics and many more. The only issue that is not discussed in this programme is politics and religion. Tewle Akinmayowa is the presenter of this programme; it starts at 6:30pm and ends at 7:00pm.

DOCUMENTARY

The station also do documentary once in a while on some people, places and things. A documentary about the Late Vice Chancellor produced and transmitted in this station.

It was an interesting and trilling visit to UNILAG 103.1 F.M. The station is doing really well with all their facilities in good working state and dedicated staff that are making every effort to meet the objectives for which the station was established.

History

Google Sites started out as JotSpot, the name and sole product of a software company that offered enterprise social software. It was targeted mainly at small-sized and medium-sized businesses. The company was founded by Joe Kraus and Graham Spencer, co-founders of Excite.
In February 2006, JotSpot was named part of Business 2.0, "Next Net 25", and in May 2006, it was honored as one of InfoWorld's "15 Start-ups to Watch".^[ In October 2006, JotSpot was acquired by Google.Google announced a prolonged data transition of webpages created using Google Page Creator (also known as "Google Pages") to Google Sites servers in 2007. On February 28, 2008, Google Sites was unveiled using the JotSpot technology. The service was free, but users needed a domain name, which Google offered for $10. However, as of May 21, 2008, Google Sites became available for free separately from Google Apps, and without the need for a domain.

Features

• Custom Domain Name Mapping - Owners of both personal Google accounts and Google Apps for Business accounts are allowed to map their Google Site to a custom domain name.
• Multi-tier Permissions and Accessibility - There are three levels of permissions within Google Sites: Owner, Editor and Viewer. Owners have full permissions to modify design and content of the entire Google Site, whereas editors cannot change the design of the site. Viewers can only view the site and are not permitted to make any changes to text or otherwise.

Extension

• Gadgets: These are XML modules that can be embedded in a Site - that can contain custom CSS & JavaScript. Gadgets achieve two purposes:

Hired OR True Supporters: Crowd Backs CP Mbu, Wike in Rivers (PHOTO)

Less than two days after mass street protests in Rivers, when the irate youths condemned the alleged assassination attempt on Senator Magnus Abe and called for redeployment of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, some youths alleged to be from Ogoniland took to the streets on January 15, 2014, Wednesday.

The youths staged their protests in Bori, the Headquarters of the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality and Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

The activists protested “the deceit and distortion of facts in the Port Harcourt incident, during which Senator Magnus Abe was said to have been shot by the Police on January 12, 2014, Sunday.

Curiously, they praised Mbu for a job well done.

The protesters, claimed they represent Ogoni Youth Movement, and Federation of Ogoni Youth Leaders Association and drew membership from the various communities of the four Local Government Areas of Eleme, Gokana, Khana, and Tai.

But, according to another version, they were the supporters of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The protesters marched from the Senatorial District office of Senator Abe, Bori, though the major streets of the metropolitan city to their final point at the Police Area Command.

Some of the protesters’ placards said:

“Abe is a Liar,” “Magnus Abe was not shot by the Police,” “Ogoni for Goodluck Jonathan,” “Ogoni youths are in support of the Police,” “APC has no place in Ogoni,” “Magnus, show evidence of gun shots,” “Ogoni youths, Elders say Mbu must stay,” “Amaechi and Abe are collaborators in crime and lies,” “Ogonis are for Wike, PDP,” etc.

In speeches at the Police Area Command in Bori, the Youth Leaders who led the procession called on the police, particularly the Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, not to be swayed by what he described as the lies and blackmail of Senator Abe and Governor Amaechi, assuring men and officers of the Police Force of the Ogoni people’s support and confidence.

Soldiers Battered Leadership Correspondent, Left Him Bleeading, Vandalise Car In Ogun

Two soldiers on Wednesday in Abeokuta assaulted the Ogun State Correspondent of the Leadership newspaper, Mr. Kunle Olayeni, and vandalise his car.

The Leadership correspondent was brutalised by the soldiers and left bleeding in the mouth.
The soldiers, who tore the journalist’s shirt, also vandalise his Honda Accord car at the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Journalists had gone to cover the special parade/laying of wreath by Governor Ibikunle Amosun to mark the 2014 edition of Armed Forces Remembrance Day and were on their way out of the venue when the incident occurred.
The journalists were on their way to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, where the ceremony was to be rounded off by the governor when Olayeni was attacked.
The irate military men, who drove in a private Peugeot car, marked Abuja AR 963 KWL, had attempted to overtake the reporter’s vehicle as they moved out of the venue of the ceremony.
The reporter, who was driving, was in company with three other colleagues - Mr. Wale Jokotoye (NAN), Mrs. Olayinka Olukoya (Nigerian Tribune) and Mr. Johnson Akinpelu (Alaroye).
The Army officer, who drove the car, claimed to be in convoy of a lorry conveying some soldiers.
His grievance was that the journalist’s car prevented his from going along with the convoy.
He jump down from his car and started raining insults on the journalists.
The attempt by the four journalists to explain that they did not know that the officer’s private car was part of the convoy, further infuriated the Army officer.
The officer, however, continued to rain invectives on the journalists, who told him that he had no right to insult them without justification.
Further angered by journalists’ response, the Army officer started hitting Olayeni’s car with his boots, inflicting severe dent on it.
He forced the door of the car open and dragged out the Leadership correspondent, punching him in the face several times in the presence of other Army personnel, including one Captain wearing a name tag, Pedro.
The case was subsequently reported at the Ibara Divisional Headquarters, Abeokuta.
